The Long Haul: Air Prepared Edition
Travel is a beautiful thing when you wake up in a new country, walk off the plane and dive in to the sights, sounds and most importantly the food of your new location. Travel isn’t so beautiful when you are stuck on a plane for 10+ hours, you fall asleep, wake up and you still haven’t arrived to your destination. Travel quickly becomes dreadful when you run out of things to do after some unforeseen delay and you are uncomfortable because you chose the wrong shoes. Everyone has their preferred options for “inflight entertainment”, in the list below you will find a few tips for making the best of this time and what you can do to prepare for a long haul flight. While packing ask yourself - what variety of items can I bring with me to stay occupied, can this item actually distract me for 3 or more hours?
I have listed a variety of items that I like to pack in my carry on when flying; they add comfort, help maintain my hygiene and are great options for entertainment especially when you are flying for 10+ hours.
Travel blanket/Pillow - Most airlines that do long haul flights will give you one but if you want something extra snuggly that you can wash before you leave, this is my choice.
Eye Mask - Airlines may supply but I prefer silk for something on my face
Sleep Patch (If you have a hard time sleeping on flights or if jet lag is a concern sleep patches are a great addition) *If you have sensitive skin - there are also sleep gummies
Wisps - keep your breath fresh!
Loop Earplugs - Give your air pods a chance to recharge!
These are a few general tips for long haul trips.
Change of comfy clothes & undies in your carryon - just in case
My favorite clothes for long haul flights are from Vuori
Something that will keep you entertained - a book, puzzle, gaming system.
If you have a Netflix/Apple TV account you can download a series of your choice to binge inflight.
Snacks - I personally like the single trail mix bags from traders because they can hold me over for a little while if I am in between flights. The bottom line is pack your faves and nothing that will melt.
