Finding Breath

Yoga has been an important part of my life since I decided to take my health and overall wellness seriously in 2014. To say my starting days were uncomfortable would be an understatement. Classes were in a mostly white studio, 90 degrees, and “all levels” (is there ever really a class slow enough?). Though I was one of about 3 minorities per class, the instructors were very helpful and encouraged listening to my body. My hips were so tight I couldn’t get into a pigeon pose and gravity refused to let me be great at every chance it could when I attempted a balance pose. To be honest, years of running and lifting had taken a toll on my body and though I “looked good” my muscles were terribly out of balance, my flexibility didn’t exist and mindfulness was not a word in my vocabulary. Fast forward 8 years - I am practicing 3-4 times a week, have a favorite mat, blocks, and towel. Remembering to take a breath through tough moments is a daily for me. Yoga has truly helped me to balance life in a way that I never thought was possible and I am forever grateful to have found my own breath, flow and balance.
