Packing Carryon Essentials
There are many people who despise traveling for so many reasons. The delays, being uncomfortable and security are just a few of the top reasons people hate to travel. As someone who loves traveling, I have perfected a list of carryon essentials that stay in my carryon no matter the destination I never leave home without them.
Headphones - Not AirPods
I always travel with 2 sets of headphones. While AirPods are small and convenient we all know the battery life is not what it should be. If you are on the plane for more than 4 hours they are likely to die and you will be without sound for a period of time. For the last 10 years I have been a fan of Bose Headphones. They are reliable, have amazing sound quality and the battery life on my Quiet Comfort headphones are 15 hours. The over ear design is very comfortable for long days and that goes perfectly with traveling.
Hydroflask or Water Vessel
I bring my emotional support water bottle with me everywhere I go. Since the 40oz that I carry on the regular is not super travel friendly I got a 24oz that is small enough to keep me hydrated but doesn’t take up too much space.
Make sure you empty before security, refill right after you get through security and you can get ice from any bar area. You will never be mad to have some water handy especially if you are stuck in the plan before takeoff and just sitting.
Dramamine
If you have motion sickness or if you think motion sickness is real take a damn Dramamine. I thought motion sickness was a thing of the past and then 1 bad turbulence experience changed my mind. If you can’t predict the thing just prepare for it, keeping 6 pills is not taking up a ton of space and it will save you lots of pain and suffering.
Battery Pack(s)
At any given time you will see me with at least 2-3 mag safe chargers. These devices are my saving grace because I never have to fumble with a charging cord and I never have to worry about my phone dying. Ideally I would have this mophie charger that I could use for my laptop as well. DO NOT trust that the plane or airport charging ports will work, its a setup for disappointment as often you find yourself at a gate where none of the plugs work on 15% battery. Every plane does not have chargers so save yourself the shock and disappointment and just bring your own.
Eye Mask
Flying at any time is an opportunity for a nap. You can unplug from your phone and do whatever you want. Why not take a nap? Keeping an eye mask in your carryon is a small but helpful item to make sure you aren’t distracted by the person in front of you who refuses to close their window on your flight that is at the crack of dawn. Put on that eyemask, turn on your noise cancellation and take a nap so when you get to your destination you are rested and ready to roll.
Carry on Skin
Some people will do an entire skincare routine on the plane. While I strongly disagree there are a few skin items that I try to always have handy; tissues, chapstick, rosewater and lotion. These items are usually over priced at the airport and are often the worst quality. Flying does make your skin dry so bring some items that will keep you moisturized. For lotion I love the gold bond hand cream because it is thicker than the others, comes in a handy travel size AND you will always want to stop and use the bathroom and no one wants to have the driest hands. When I get off the plane I like to spray some rose water on my face to refresh things.
Compression Socks
Incorporating compression socks into your travel routine can significantly enhance your overall experience by promoting comfort and wellness on your journeys. They are a must have when flying for 5+ hours. When considering travel essentials, compression socks are a must-have for two main reasons:
Improved Circulation: Compression socks enhance blood flow in your legs, which can reduce the risk of blood clots and deep vein thrombosis, especially during long flights or road trips.
Reduced Swelling: Extended periods of sitting can lead to leg swelling. Wearing compression socks helps prevent fluid retention and keeps your legs feeling fresh.
These are just a few of my favorite carryon items for travel. I hope this list inspires you to build your own list of perfect carryon finds.
